| Product | Europe | United States |
|---|---|---|
| Balance bikes | Toy safety: EN 71-1, EN 71-2, EN 71-3; REACH | ASTM F963, CPSIA |
| Electric balance bikes | EN 71 plus EN IEC 62115 (electric toys); EMC, IP rating, RoHS and EU battery rules | — |
| Toy kick scooters: for play, not for sport or riding on roads; rider up to 50 kg | EN 71-1, EN 71-2, EN 71-3 | ASTM F963, CPSIA |
| Kick scooters for sport or for riding on roads and paths, rider over 20 kg and under 100 kg, including stunt scooters | EN 14619 | — |
| Skateboards | EN 13613 (skateboards for children of 20 kg or less are toys: EN 71) | — |
| Helmets for cycling, skateboarding and roller skating | EN 1078 | — |
Scooters for riders under 20 kg are always toys. Between 20 and 50 kg, a scooter can be a toy (EN 71) or sports equipment (EN 14619), depending on its design and intended use. EN 14619 Class B covers riders up to 50 kg with a handlebar height of 74 cm or less.
The final classification is decided case by case by market authorities. Tell us your market and intended use, and we will confirm which tests a model needs.
